It has been a while my lovely people <3. However, I am determined to try to be more consistent as I truly love to blog, I just do not have the time for it! so Thank you for staying with me and welcome to any new followers xoxo.
I have discovered that sometimes I gain inspiration to write a blog post when I have strong opinions about a product. This time, it is about the Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil ( Damn, the name is long, so I will refer to it as Clarins lip oil). I have 2 of them, in the shades 01 Honey and 02 Raspberry. Those two were gifted to me by Clarins Australia as part of the giveaway I won on Instagram.
The packaging feels lux, even though it is not very heavy as most higher end products are, but the light gold top and the square packaging, in my opinion looks lux. Also, the applicator is soft as a baby’s butt (not that I felt one, but you get what I mean!). my favourite part is the motion of taking the applicator out of the square bottle gives a nice pop that is just as satisfying as a magnetic closure lipstick, if you are a makeup lover then you will understand this makeup obsession with certain makeup experiences. Although sometimes a little bit of product strings out which is annoying.
They feel like a gel x liquified lip balm. I love the way it feels on my lips, as I do not normally enjoy the feeling of oils on my lips. But i enjoy the Clarins lip oils because they feel like a comfortable gel lipgloss or as if you melted a good oil based lip balm. They are only slightly tacky which helps them hold on to my lips for a bit extra. The tackiness is nothing uncomfortable. It is a good tacky lip oil.
They are scented. It is not a natural fragrance, but perfume, the 01 Honey smells like honey and floral and 02 Raspberry smells like straight raspberry and sugar. My favourite is definitely Raspberry <3. The only thing I dislike about the fragrance is that if you lick your lips, it also tastes like perfume.
They do not last long. They look like a sophisticated gloss when first applied, not to wet, yet still shiny (hope that makes sense!). On me they only last around 2 hours, while as time goes by during those 2 hours, the shine wears off and feels more like a lip balm is on your lips. Of course, if you eat or drink it will wear off faster.
They have a nice selection of scents/shades. They currently have 7 shades/scents, 01 Honey, 02 Raspberry, 03 Red Berry ,04 Candy, 05 Tangerine, 06 Mint and 07 Honey Glam. I can’t tell much of a difference between 01 Honey and 02 Raspberry so I assume they are function similarly but i am not 100% sure.
The tint is very minimal or non existent. The honey shade is transparent on my lips, but keep in mind I have naturally pigmented lips. The Raspberry shade gives my lips a nice cool toned rosy tint that is natural. I actually like that they are not overly tinted as they are easier to touch up when I am out and about and don’t have a mirror handy.
I have been using both shades a lot for the past 3 weeks. I tried them in three different situations:
- I tried them as lip balms when my lips were cracked. I found that it glided on nicely over cracked lips and made my lips comfortable. It helped soften them a bit but it did not completely remove the cracked skin as I believe only an exfoliator would do this job. Sometimes, I prefer to hydrate my lips before exfoliating them to avoid irritating them further. So in my books, it functioned as a good lip balm.
- I tried them when my lips were simply chapped. It definitely helped soften my lips and hydrate them a bit, it is not an intense over night treatment as an oil treatment might prelude but it feels amazing when you are outside and want a comfortable lip balm that has a nice kick of tint or simply chic packaging.
- I also tried them when my lips were just normal. I like to do this to ensure that it would not dry my lips out as some lip balms do this, and I am happy to report it does not! It keeps them nice and hydrated, if anything it adds a bit more hydration as my lips are usually dry no matter what I do.
I have a habit of checking ingredients of products and boy was it hard to find information on the Clarins Comfort lip oils! I believe the ingredients come on the boxes and as I was gifted them, they did not come with their boxes.
Fortunately I found the ingredients of the 01 honey on the Clarins US website at the questions and answers tab, where a staff member answered the following:
Here are the ingredients for Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil – Shade 01 Honey
Polyglyceryl-2 ISO-Sterate/Dimer Dilinoleate COP-Lymer – Dilinoleic Acid/Propanediol Copolymer – Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil (Jo Joba) – Corylus Avellana Seed Oil (Hazel) – Prunus Insititia Seed Oil – Parfum/Fragrance – Vanillin – Tocopheryl Acetate – Ammonium Glycyrrhizate – Capsicum Annuum Fruit Extract6 – Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil (Sun Flower) – Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) – Leaf Extract
So if you google the first two ingredients you would find that they are a substance that feels like a gel that is used in cosmetics to mix with oils and other products. The rest of the ingredients are oils which in my opinion are good ingredients, except for fragrance.
You get 7 ml for 33$ AUD or 26 USD. i have been using them quite a bit to form my review and I do not have much of a dent in them. I have at least used the Honey one 15 times and the Raspberry one 10 times and it still looks brand new. But I also was not using them multiple times a day everyday like a traditional lip balm. So I think it would last me a good while, but it also depends on your habits of reapplying.
For me it is a nice treat that does what it claims, it hydrates and is comfortable on my lips when they are irritated. It also is a very nice and light oil treatment. The high price is for the good ingredients and lux packaging/feeling. Is it the best lip balm out there? No, there are better intense lip balms. So it comes down to what you need or want :).
I am curious, would you be interested in the Clarins Instant Light Oil Lip Comfort? And which shade/scent would you buy? I am definitely interested in buying the Red Berry or Mint Scent!
